Timbermen will call Millbrook Arena home in 2020 season!

The Peterborough Timbermen are moving closer to home.

After playing their first three seasons in primarily in Oshawa, Arena Lacrosse League commissioner Paul St. John has inked a deal with the Township of Cavan Monaghan for the Timbermen to play their 2019-2020 season at Millbrook Arena.

The space became available when the new Cavan Monaghan Community Centre opened in September. Ice hockey will no longer be played at the old Millbrook Arena, paving the way for other local sports organizations like the Timbermen to potentially utilize the facility as a year-round dry pad.

Moving just 25 minutes outside the city centre means the Timbermen are hopeful more local lacrosse fans will attend games.

“We are very excited about this opportunity,” said general manager and head coach Joe Sullivan. “Not only is it more convenient for our local players but it will bring local families, fans and sponsors back to the Timbermen.”

The Timbermen played their inaugural season at the Tribute Communities Centre before moving to Children’s Arena which they shared with the Oshawa Outlaws and Whitby Steelhawks.

Last season was their best, finishing in second place with a 9-5 record before falling to the Steelhawks in the quarter finals.

We have not had the luxury of having a facility that we can call home during our entire existence,” Sullivan said. “We look forward to working with the Millbrook Arena and the local fans to bring great lacrosse back to the area in the winter months while we compete for the 2020 ALL championship.”

The next step in preparations for the upcoming season is the ALL combine and draft set for November 23rd at Children’s Arena.

The Timbermen open their 2020 ALL season at Millbrook Arena on Saturday, December 21st against the Steelhawks. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for children under 14.
