Peterborough Timbermen lose to Ohsweken Bears

The Peterborough Timbermen remain winless in their Arena Lacrosse League season, falling to 0-5 after a 17-11 loss to the Ohsweken Bears (formerly St. Catharines ShockWave) at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. It was the Bears’ first win of the season.

Peterborough had four different goal scorers in the first quarter and led 4-2, but the Bears came back to tie the game 6-6 at halftime.

A three-goal, minute-and-a-half run in the third allowed Ohsweken to pull away, and although Riley Curtis’ sock trick kept the pressure on throughout the game, the Bears doubled up on the Timbermen in the fourth quarter.

Marko Ćelić took the loss in goal.

The Timbermen only allowed Ohsweken three power plays, while scoring on three of their own five opportunities, but they gave up four shorthanded goals.

James Whiteford led Ohsweken with four goals and five assists. Former Timberman Troi Benedict got the win in goal after coming in for the second half of the game in relief of Marquez Stonefish.

The Timbermen have a tough two weeks ahead, facing the two top teams in the league. They start on the road next Saturday, January 28 to pay a visit to Children’s Arena in Oshawa to face the Outlaws. The Timbermen’s next home game is Saturday, February 4 at 2 p.m. at Millbrook Arena vs the Brampton Express. Tickets will be available at the door.
