Huge comeback win for Timbermen over Monarchs

Aaron Woods

The Peterborough Timbermen have a winning record for the first time in recent memory, after a 15-12 win over the Toronto Monarchs in Arena Lacrosse League action Saturday moved them to 3-2. Already a third of the way through the season, the Timbermen sit in third place in the ALL standings.

Down 9-5 at halftime, the Timbermen roared back and outscored Toronto 10-3 in the second half.

Aaron Woods led the effort with four goals and three assists.

“I think we had a good first half and some of our shots just didn’t fall,” Woods said. “We were confident going into the second half that if we kept working and playing our game we would have success. (Goaltender) Thomas (Kiazyk) and our defence had a huge second half, allowing the offence to spend a lot of time with the ball and get in a good flow, allowing us to pick away at Toronto’s lead.”

Woods, the former ALL East MVP, spent last season with the now-defunct Professional Box Lacrosse Association. He is back in Peterborough although is also a member of the Halifax Thunderbirds’ practice squad.

“It feels good to be back playing for Peterborough,” he said. “It’s good seeing a lot of old faces in the locker room and a lot of new young talent too.”

The Timbermen also returned Skkylar Thomas to their lineup for the first time since 2022. The sneaky forward contributed a pair of goals and three assists.

Also working in Peterborough’s favour was limiting their penalties to just two minor infractions.

Parker Pipher led the Monarchs with three goals and five assists. Craig Wende suffered the loss in goal.

The Timbermen return home this Saturday, January 20th to host Six Nations Snipers 20 at 2 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door of Millbrook Arena. Adults are $10, kids ages 5-14 are $5 and kids under 5 are FREE.
