Timbermen fall to Paris in regular season finale; playoffs next

The Peterborough Timbermen played one of their best games of the season on Sunday afternoon but couldn’t come up with the win, falling to the Paris RiverWolves 17-14 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

The Timbermen finish in eighth place in the Arena Lacrosse League standings at 1-13. Despite the record, they’re headed for the quarterfinals next weekend, visiting the first place Toronto Monarchs on Saturday, April 1st at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville. It’s a one-game playoff format; the winner moves on to the semifinals.

Sunday, the Timbermen trailed 11-3 at halftime before rattling off six goals in a row in the third quarter to close the gap to 11-9. They got within a goal in the fourth quarter at 12-11 before Paris pulled away.

Riley Curtis led the Timbermen with four goals and five assists. Jack MacAlpine had his biggest game of the season with three goals and three assists. Ethan Woods went the distance in goal.

Noah Simonelli led Paris with four goals and three assists, while Eric Lemire scored four goals and two assists. Chase Cosgrove got the win in goal for Paris, though he was spelled in the third quarter for 11 minutes by Peterborough native Jackson Hainer.
